Brunch
You can't go wrong with starting your day with brunch at the Refectory
This cosy location is just a hop, skip and a jump from West Gate train station and a great location to begin your exploration of Canterbury.
They have lots of choices from; traditional full English and classic pancakes with maple syrup but with beautiful healthy/home-cooked twists to their dishes, such as their own homemade baked beans.
The warm atmosphere, with an old fashioned fireplace in the middle and a social buzz, it's an uplifting and delicious start to the day and who doesn’t love a good brunch!!
Coffee
We are spoilt for choice when it comes to coffee shops in Canterbury but there are some that stick out when it comes to a true artisan brew.
Fond Coffee are the new kids on the block that everyone’s talking about!
Whether you are walking past to grab a coffee for a walk or you want to sit in for a light bite you're guaranteed to absolutely love their coffee.
The coffee is roasted by the Fond Coffee Team and really makes you feel like a true coffee connoisseur. A cute and sophisticated Coffee shop with a laid back atmosphere to welcome you both in and a nice selection of drinks for those with differing tastes!. Great news for 2021, we will be serving Fond Coffee from our very own Mooring cafe.
You’ll be pinching bits off your partner's plate and wanting to taste their coffee!
With a great soundtrack for the background, comfy sofas to lounge and talkative staff you can feel completely chilled out, knowing you’ve found the perfect.
walks
Canterbury has some amazing natural beauty within its city walls, if you fancy a walk with some eye-catching surroundings look no further than Westgate Gardens; with tree species from all over the world and a beautiful view of the water while you walk around the garden.
Absolutely perfect for spring and summer dates, soaking up the sunshine & taking in all the wonderful views of the fresh flowers.
Another fantastic walk is the Dane John with its remaining city walls and an ancient burial mound (sounds like a downer but it's a great viewpoint), you can walk along the ancient walls and get a great view of the Cathedral!
With a South-American food shack and a beautiful old bandstand; this park will give you all the romantic vibes that you need to take romance to the next level.
Treats
The City has a great selection of shops whether you're looking for independent, one-off shops or needing to grab stuff from some of your big highstreet favourites.
We definitely advise checking out the unique food stalls that open up randomly throughout the city, they are always a pleasant treat with flavours from all over the world from Greek to African cuisine, there are many unique experiences to show that special someone your adventurous side.
If you’re bestie or partner is a big Harry Potter fan then we recommend checking out the House of secrets store where you can nab yourself a Nimbus!
….Or how about a British flag mug from the English gift shops and why not treat yourself to some amazing local treats at rock paper scissors. This local art and craft store has unique art pieces created by local artists as well as luxury local produce from kent chillies.
Dinner
If you’re really hoping to impress or perhaps it’s a really special occasion then you really must check out the Old Weavers.
This restaurant sits by the river edge for some stunning outside dining or sitting inside to soak in the atmosphere of the rustic converted barn.
With a stunning selection of dishes, with an Asian/Mediterranean theme and talented Chefs and friendly staff. Their focus on cooking local produce to create delectable dishes you will love.
Punting
Nothing is more relaxing than kicking back in a boat whilst someone else pushes you around, Haha!
The scenery is breath-taking and will be sure to earn you all the brownie points required.
